How to choose the perfect rocking horse

We know that choosing a rocking horse can be a big decision with so many options, and choosing the right one is an investment that can be enjoyed for years and generations to come!

Whether you’re looking for a rocking horse for a baby, a one year old or an older toddler, we’ve put together a guide to help you choose the right one so you and your little ones can get the most out of your purchase.

Rocking Horses are a popular gift for new babies as they make a beautiful nursery decoration that new parents will love. They can then be used by their little one as they grow, giving years of pleasure. You may want to opt for a delightful design, such as ‘Pixie and Fluff’ or ‘Lewis and Fitz’, or a classic, neutral style such as ‘Bobble and Pip’ that will look stunning in any nursery. Suitable from 9 months old, these horses are the smallest in our Little Bird Told Me range and will take children to 2 or 3 years old depending on their height.  Each rocking horse features a tactile ‘scrunchy’ faux suede mane and tail to encourage little ones to explore, and they each carry a little friend in their pockets for added play value. All our rocking horses come in beautiful gift boxes too.

Our small rocking horses come with free delivery.

If you’re looking for a rocking horse for a 1 year old, ‘Dylan and Boo’ and ‘Florence and Floop’ are a popular choice. Suitable from 12 months, these rocking horses will take children to 3 or 4 years old so they will get plenty of use out of them.  Like the smaller horses, these rocking horses also feature a scrunchy faux suede mane and tail and have a little friend in their pockets to delight your little one! If you’re looking for something extra special ‘Chester and Fred’ features a leatherette saddle and bridle and looks stunning in coffee and gold woven hounds-tooth fabric, with walnut stained rockers.

The largest horse in our range is ‘Tennyson’. Suitable from ages 3 years +, he is built on a swinging stand and has a weight limit of 45kg so will carry your little ones for as long as they want to play with him! This is a real heirloom rocking horse that can be passed down for generations to come and be enjoyed by all the family!

If you’re considering a rocking horse but would like something a little different, then the gorgeous ‘Lambert’ Rocking Sheep is one to consider! As we’re based in the Lake District, we couldn’t leave this beautiful sheep out of our collection, and he’s proven to be a huge hit! He’s suitable for ages 9 months + and has the most huggable textured woolly body. His neutral colouring means he’ll go with any room too.

'Lambert' rocking sheep is £99.95 and 'Tennyson' £295.

All our rocking horses are from Yorkshire based company ‘Little Bird Told Me’, who believe in making toys that last. All their rocking horses are built on a sturdy wooden frame with the best quality fabrics, so you know they’ll stand the test of time.

We offer free delivery on all of our rocking horses, and a standard 2-4 day delivery time, and our couriers will provide a one hour time slot so there’s no hanging around waiting in all day for it to arrive.
