Easter Events with Children in the Lake District
With the Easter holidays just around the corner, we’ve put together a list of some great places and events to visit with young children in Bowness and the south Lake District. There’s always plenty to explore with such stunning scenery and plenty of countryside to enjoy, as well as some fantastic towns and villages.
Easter just wouldn’t be Easter without Easter Eggs, so the Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt at Fell Foot Park is a great place to start. The event takes place on Easter Sunday between 11am and 3pm, and includes an Easter Egg hunt throughout the grounds, traditional Lakeland egg rolling and games. Situated on the shores of Lake Windermere on the southern tip of the lake, The National Trust’s Fell Foot Park has stunning views across the lake and surrounding mountains. With gardens to explore and a lovely café, it’s well worth a visit.
Brockhole, the Lake District Visitor Centre, have an Easter Eggsplorers event on Good Friday, featuring an Easter Egg Hunt, Easter Crafts, egg decorating and face painting. If all that chocolate has got a bit too much, they also offer a wide range of activities including bike hire, boat hire, pony rides and mini golf, as well as an adventure playground to burn off all that energy!
No visit to the Lakes is complete without a boat trip, and Windermere Lake Cruises are a great way to see the sights and explore the area. With stops at Brockholes Visitor Centre, Ambleside and Lakeside you can leave the car behind and save the hassle of parking. There are a choice of routes, and boats run regularly throughout the day.
The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in the heart of Bowness is a must visit if you’re visiting the area with children. As well as visiting Peter Rabbit and his friends at the attraction, they have a number of events on over the Easter holidays, including ‘Bunnies and Chicks in the Peter Rabbit Garden’ on Tuesday 19th March at 10am, as well as a Craft Day on Good Friday, where children can try their hand at some craft activities, and take their finished project home with them.
We’ve had some beautiful weather over the past few days and we hope its set to continue over the Easter break. Just in case the weather’s not on side, The Royalty Cinema is the perfect place to spend a rainy afternoon, especially with the release of Disney’s Zootropolis!
There are some fantastic family friendly places to eat and drink too. The Angel Inn in the centre of Bowness is a traditional Lakeland Inn with a great range of options on their children’s menu, while their main menu, drinks choice and surroundings make it a great place for adults to relax too.
If you’re looking for lunch or just a drink, KD’s Café on Quarry Rigg offers a great selection of homemade meals, light bites and cakes, with plenty of outside seating away from the hustle and bustle of the main road.
If all those Easter Eggs haven’t satisfied your sweet tooth, Choccobar Hot Chocolate House offer a unique hot chocolate experience. Made from real Belgian chocolate, their luxurious hot chocolate is a real hit with adults, while they offer a child’s hot chocolate, made with less chocolate and more milk, that will be loved by little ones too.
There is so much on offer for families with young children in the Lake District, and we’d love to hear your favourite activities and recommendations, so feel free to share them in the comments below!
